Each symbol represents a community service project.

Note: The patch program is a guideline for the symbols that are presented on the patch. You can substitute other projects that represent these symbols. Each project does not need to be completed in specific order. The months noted are only suggested months to complete the projects. You can also have a community event and complete 3 projects in a day. Invite others to assist at your event. Example: Collect hats and mittens, food, and make shoeboxes for soldiers at your event.

OCTOBER - (Mittens and Hat) Collect hats, mittens, socks, and coats for the less fortunate. Make sure they are gently worn coats. Donate them to the homeless, children, and other community facilities that give back to the community.

Don't forget to collect glasses for sight night on October 31. Free flyers available on line.

NOVEMBER - (yellow ribbon) Donate items for holiday gifts for soldiers overseas.  You can also sew stockings for the soldiers and stuff them. Look under we support the troops for more information on assisting the troops overseas.

DECEMBER - (gift box) Our Neighbor's Child, shoe boxes or stockings for soldiers, stockings or toys for children, adopt a child, toys for tots, or Angel Tree.

JANUARY - (scissors) Clip coupons for soldiers overseas, collect stamps for the stamp ministry, create blankets, create an arts and craft projects for the elderly, and any type of sewing for the needy.

FEBRUARY- (heart) Make cards or valentines for the children's hospital, veterans, or elderly homes. Collect valentine cards for children who otherwise would not be able to afford them for school.

MARCH - (white goody bag) Create seasonal candy bags, baskets for hospitals, have a bake sale for cancer patients, have a tea party for younger children, decorate cookies for the firefighters, spring cards and goody bags for the elderly or assisted living homes, etc. Collect or purchase candy making sure some is sugarfree for elderly. Divide among the clear bags, secure with a twist tie and deliver to the facility.

APRIL- (cans) Donate can goods and non perishable items to food banks/or low income housing programs or make baskets for the less fortunate for the spring holiday. Volunteer at a local shelter, soup kitchen, or prepare food for the less fortunate. Prepare a picnic for unprivileged children. Donate items to Ronald McDonald house.

MAY-  (shovel and dirt) Go Green! Participate in landscaping, horticultural program, clean up a river, plant a tree, participate in a recycling program or Earth Day Groceries Program.

JUNE- (ball) Collect games or play games with younger children. Create a game and share it with others. Volunteer to baby-sit for families that have lost their jobs, adopt a scout troop, secret pal, any other anonymous gift programs.

STAR - You are a star for helping others in your community. Choose a project that you enjoy. Examples: Share your gifts with others (such as language, art, science etc.); donate items to an orphanage; paint a mural in a shelter or community center; make decorations for a social event; offer to be a mother's helper or help the elderly.

HEART- Pick a project that gives of your heart. Choose a project that is lasting and loving.
