1. Greece is small country, but has a multitude of seperate islands. Locate Greece on a map and find the Capital. What continent is it located on? Identify the Greek flag and the type of currency they use.

2. Pos se lene? What is your name? The official language of Greece is Greek. Learn how to say Hello, count or say other words and phrases in Greek.

3. Greeks admired courage, intelligence and strength. Statues were placed to honor famous Greeks. Research a famous person and what human quality they represent. Such as: Homer, Archimedes, Alexander the Great and Aristotle.

4. One of Greece’s most recognizable landmarks is the Parthenon. Where it is located, who built it, and how old is it? Create a diorama or model of a Greek structure or a flat map with the structure’s location on it

5. Artists and craft workers were known for their impressive objects. Some common creations were pottery, hand painted vases, jewelry and colorful woven rugs. Create an art project, a piece of jewelry, or a piece of pottery.

6. In Greece, during 776 BC, a flame was lit and the Olympics began. That tradition still continues today. What does the torch and the leaf wreath represent? How often are the olympics held? 7. Ancient Greek culture can be traced to 6000 B.C. In 168 BC, the Roman Empire conquered Greece, absorbing their country and culture. Choose two important people or events in Greece history to research or find two similarities in the Roman and Greek culture or create a timeline.

8. Numerous Greek holidays and festivals are celebrated throughout the year honoring many different people or things. Some examples are: Christmas, Easter, Ochi Day, or Flower Festival. Visit a cultural celebration or re-creation of one of these events OR learn why they celebrate this day. You may also, create an art project, sing carols, make paper flowers, or enjoy some butter cookies.

9. Greeks created a large variety of myths, legends and gods to explain the world aroung them. Learn about Greek mythology or legend, or research a god or goddess, such as: Hercules, Zeus, Cupid, Odyssey, Hera, or Eros.

10. Large theatres holding over 10,000 people can be found in Greece. Greek plays, storytelling, puppetry and operas became very famous and are still performed in Greece today. Do one of the following: Create your own song or poem, make masks or puppet, or create a modern fable or play of your own.

11. Some games or toys that the children in Greece played were knucklebones, action figures, and tag. Learn about other games or toys in Greece OR play a game they might play in Greece OR create a new game or toy to share with others.

12. The most common style of traditional dress for men and women was a long tunic reaching the knees, similar to a shirt. Important men also wore long robes made of silk or linen. Women wore long skirts. Learn more about other traditional shoes, headdresses and clothing they wore. Draw a picture of the clothing or design your own outfit.

13. The Greeks have made many contributions to the world through their practical inventions. Research some of the inventions that Greece has given to the world. Some examples are: water clocks, steam engines or irrigation channels.

14. The first two letters of the Greek alphabet are called alpha and beta. Creating the English word “alphabet”. Try writing a word using the greek alphabet or write the entire 24 letter alphabet or make a scroll.

15. From braided bread to artistically designed dishes, Greek foods are known for their great taste and presentation. Have you ever eaten gyros or Baklava? Learn more about foods that have originated from Greece. Some examples are: tripoetes, Mousaka, Souvlaki and Greek Salad. If you have the privilege of visiting this country, you can complete some of these requirements there. It would be helpful to learn more about the country prior to your visit. Use the library and the internet to research more.
