Note: The patch program is a guideline for the symbols that are presented on the patch. You can substitute other projects that represent these symbols. Each project does not need to be completed in specific order. The months noted are only suggested months to complete the projects. You can also have a community event and complete 3 projects in a day. Invite others to assist at your event. Example: Collect hats and mittens, food, and make shoe boxes for soldiers at your event.

SEPTEMBER - [Scissors and Crayons] Start your year out by collecting school supplies for children in need. Older participants can assist in heading up the drive or putting backpacks together and dropping them off at designated facilities. Examples of drop locations: Retail stores, banks, office supply areas, and other participating places.

Don't forget to participate in Pinwheels for Peace in September.

OCTOBER- [Daisy or awareness ribbon] Juliette Low is the founder of scouting for girls, her birthday is October 31st. Complete a project that she would have completed or in recognition of her. Examples include: Birthday bags for the less fortunate, masquerade ball collect food for the needy, volunteer for breast cancer, stand up for bullying by wearing mismatch socks, help at an animal shelter, or volunteer to assist a younger scout troop. Older participants could host events, assist younger children in projects, or hold a drive for items.

Don't forget to collect glasses for Sight Night on October 31.

NOVEMBER-[gift] Create shoeboxes and cards for children or soldiers. Purchase or collect the items and compile them together to have them delivered to the soldiers or children by December. Older participants can hold a drive for the items, hold an event to create cards, go through the collected items, and drop them off or ship them to the designated areas.

DECEMBER- [Present and Music Note] [Card/sock/or gift] Purchase items to place to create sock angels or stockings for children, write letters to Santa, go caroling at elderly homes, participate in a toy drive or purchase small gifts for the less fortunate during the holidays. You can also organize a holiday party at a family shelter to give these stockings away. Sing songs and give out small gifts you collected or created. Create your own bread or cookies to send to a food bank, family in need, or elderly home. Call ahead to see how many will be in attendance. Examples of projects to participate in: Spread the Bread, Sock Angel, Letters to Santa for Make a Wish, Ronald McDonald House or traveling apron.

JANUARY- [Valentine] Create Valentines for Veterans, elderly, or assist children in a Valentine craft. Every year young children create special Valentines to brighten the lives of our nation's Veterans. Cards can be created in every shape and size - and are made with everything from tissue paper, stickers, and colored doilies to crayons, construction paper, and rubber stamps. FEBRUARY- [sock/ handprint] Assist children in need by donating socks, read to children at the library, plan a party or event for children, create boxes or pouches for those that are ill. Examples of projects to participate in: Fuzzy sock donation, socks for the soul, HK Mission, The Jared Box, Operation Bear Hug, Pajama Project, Stamp Ministry, Golden Ribbon of Hope, OR Change 4 Change [choose any organization to donate your change to].

MARCH- [shoes] Turn your shoes into precious water for children and their families. The secondhand shoes are a valuable product for street vendors to sell at affordable prices. Funds generated from the selling of the shoes provide well drilling rigs, water purification systems, and hand pump repair. Follow the program and collect shoes, mail your shoes to the facility. Older participants can host events and collect and organize the shoes. You can also choose to participate in other community service projects that involve shoes such as a walk-a-thon or clothing drives. .

APRIL-[flowers] Participate in Earth day or environmental community service activity. Examples are: Ocean clean-up, plant a tree, gardening for your home or elderly, work in the yard or plant a flower in a cup and watch it grow

MAY-[canned goods] Collect food for the needy, deliver food to those unable to leave their home, cook a meal at a shelter, stock shelves, make sandwiches for the needy, teach children how to eat healthy foods or have them make a nutritious snack. Older participants can create a food drive and assign each person an item to bring and create bags of groceries for those in need. Deliver them.

STAR - You are a star for helping others in your community. Choose a project that you enjoy. Examples: Share your gifts with others (such as language, art, science etc.); donate items to a shelter; paint a mural at a community center; make decorations for a social event; offer to be a mother's helper or help the elderly.

HEART- Pick a project that gives of your heart. Choose a project that is lasting and loving.
