English is the official language of Grenada, however, the main language spoken is either an English-based creole language, or Grenadian Creole French. Grenadian Creole French is also known as Patois. Learn some words or slang that is spoken in Grenada. 3. As in most South American countries, Carnival is one of the most widely celebrated occasions in the country. This time is celebrated with much feasting, singing, dancing, and parades. Parang is a festival that occurs on the weekend before Christmas, and is celebrated over a three day period of singing and dancing. It is very similar to Christmas caroling. There are several types of pan, and they can all play a wide range of music. Grenadian folk dances, such as bongo and kalinda, are both African influenced.
