1. Israel is located in the Middle East near the Mediterranean Sea. What continent is it located on and what is the capital? Name one country that borders Israel and learn what the flag looks like.

2. Israel has two official languages Hebrew and Arabic, though English is also spoken. All the money, postage stamps, and signs are written in all three languages in Israel. The Hebrew language is written from left to right. Hebrew has no capital letters and is printed without vowels, except in books written for children. Learn some simple phrases OR words OR write letters or numbers in Hebrew.

3. People in Israel celebrate many holidays and festivals. Some of these holidays are historical or religious events. Have your own celebration representing a holiday or special event OR learn the meaning of the event OR play a game from a celebration OR attend a festive Israel event OR create a drawing, art project, or prepare a food served at the event. Some examples include: Israel Festival, Hanukkah , Red Sea Jazz Festival, Hanukkah, Tu B’Shvat “A new year of trees” , Acco Alternative Theater Festival, Carmiel Dance Festival, and Arad Hebrew Song Festival.

4. Israel contains a variety of terrains including coastal beaches, mountainous area, desserts, forests, and valleys. Explore the great outdoors. Learn more about one of these terrains, natural creation or complete an outdoor activity that is completed in Israel. Learn more about the terrain area OR try a outdoor activity that is conducted there OR learn more about the seashore or oceanography OR create a craft or picture representing the terrain. Examples include: swimming, jeep tours in the desert, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, snorkeling, sailing, canoeing, or water skiing. 5. Did you know it was against the law to pick wildflowers in Israel? This was due to over picking of flowers and some started becoming extinct. There is also a large variety of animals that are unique to the country. Choose three [3] plants OR animals that live in Israel to learn more about OR create a craft, picture, or game representing an animal that resides in Israel. Examples: prickly pear, anemone, poppy, Nubian Ibex, white oryx, fennac fox, camel, eucalyptus tree, or olive tree.

6. Some of the most wonderful collections of art are located in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv. The art represents 16th century to present creations. Some of the art creations include paintings, pottery, jewelry and various other designs. Learn more about the art displayed in the galleries in Israel OR create an art project depicting Israel or their art OR view art in books, Internet or displays.

7. People came from many different countries to settle in Israel, creating a a variety of different ethnic cultures. There are traditional garments that represent the old and new Israel. Draw a picture of the clothing, complete our paperdolls in our manual, view clothing, try on clothing OR create an accessory or piece of clothing resembling the Israel clothing.

8. Food in is blended with a variety of cultural cuisine dues to the history of people from many parts of the world settling in the country. Try some Israeli food, prepare a recipe, or research more about the traditional foods served or can not be eaten on special holidays. Some examples are: falafel sandwiches, cholent, shashlik, kugel, and challah.

9. Israel’s history dates back thousands of years ago to the biblical era of time. Learn more about the history OR listen to a story OR watch a movie OR read a story about this era of time.

10. Dance has been performed in a variety of festivals or dance theaters throughout the year. Learn more about a dance or music from Israel OR watch a dance, OR learn the history of the dance or listen to music. Examples include: debks, Arabic line dance; hora, European circle dance OR Yemenite, Israeli folk dance.

11. Located on the patch is the most famous site in Jerusalem called the Dome of the Rock. It is important to many diverse groups due to the history of the site. Learn more about a landmark, building or historical site in Israel.

12. Israelic children enjoy a variety of games such as hide and seek, marbles, hopscotch, and dreidel. Learn about other games or sports played in Israel OR play a game they might play in Israel OR create a traditional game or toy to share with others. ?Refer to the “game” section for more information.

13. Complete a service project, to help others. Some interesting projects could include: Landscaping, working with children in need, making gift baskets or cards the elderly.
