1. Native Americans were the first settlers in America. They learned to cultivate the land, hunt, and take care of their families. Choose a tribe to learn more about. Some examples are: Cherokee, Apache, Blackfeet, Ute, Ottawa, Inuit, Delaware, Seminole, Hopi, and Creek.

2. Learn more about the apparel that was worn by Native Americans. Some examples include moccasins, Tribal clothing, regalia clothing, boots, parkas, dresses, shawls etc. There are examples located in the Native American kit.

3. Research some authentic recipes from Native American. Try a food or recipe. Some recipes included in the kit are: Pumpkin Pie, Fry Bread, Indian Pudding, Cherokee Blueberry Bread, Maple Mashed Potatoes, and a list of other items you can purchase in stores.

4. Games are always fun and educational. Choose a game representing the Native American culture. Some examples include: Pass the Stone, Arrow or Feather Toss, Toss up, Bowl Game, Friendship Dance, and Ring Toss.

5. Prepare a fun activity depicting the native American culture. Some examples include: walking sticks, Tribal Headbands, Walking Stick, Crest, Paper Bag Vest, Armbands, Fringed Shirt, Face and Body Painting, Seed or Beaded Necklace, Pinch Pot, Weaving, Make a tepee, Sand Painting, Parfleche Bags, Dream Catcher, Fleece Knotted Blankets, Knotted Scarves or Belts.

6. Women, men, and children had different jobs in their daily life. Learn more about the daily activities they had to perform to exist on a daily basis. Make a list of three activities. For extra, act out the activities using charades. Examples: gathering berries, hunting, tending to children.

7. Totem poles are an ancient tradition of the tribes located on the Northwest Coast. They represent the family, accomplishments, adventures and rights. Common symbols are the raven, hawk and bear. They are commonly topped with an eagle or thunderbird. Draw out your own totem pole representing your family or color one.

8. Native Americans played instruments during dances or celebrations. The drum and rattles helped them keep a beat with their different movements. Each participant can either make a drum, rattle or choose to be a dancer. They can take turns playing the different instruments. Have them make up the movements according to the beats from the band.

9. Learn more about the Native American Regions and the type of housing they resided in. For extra, create a craft representing the housing. Some examples include: longhouses, teepees, and wigwams.

10. Legends are important to the Native Americans and it assists them in passing down their traditions to their next generation. Read or listen to a legend. Examples include: The First to Know Maize, Coyote Spills the Stars, Gluskabe Changes Maple Syrup, and Algon and the Sky Girl.

11. Pictographs were commonly used by Native Americans. Each symbol represented an word through drawing. Learn more about these symbols and create a story or sentence by writing them down. There are some examples on the patch and a worksheet in the kit.

12. Choose your own Native American according to your personality or hobbies. Some examples include Wind Dancer, Running Bear, Singing Goose, Spirited Angel, or Loving Bear. More examples are included in the kit.

13. There are several states, cities, and roads that are derived from the Native American language. Research two of these names and try to find out the meanings.

14. Visit or view an authentic Native American reservation, Pow Wow, or museum depicting their culture. Make sure you have permission before you visit some sites.

15. There are several different Native American languages in the United States. Choose a tribe to learn more about their language. Learn to state at least three words from this language.

16. Pottery was created for water jars, bowls, and decorative purposes. They used clay from nearby mountains to create pots using the coil method, shaped by hand, and finishing by carving designs and symbols. Each state had unique products that they created by using the resources near them. As you are studying your tribe find out what was common to create in that region.
