GIVE THANKS PATCH PROGRAM This program is about giving thanks to others. There are many ways you can give your thanks verbally, in writing, or by your actions. When you bake or cook something your heart and hardwork shows and pours through into the item you are preparing. When you create or purchase something for one of the below groups or people, be sure to say "thank you" when you give it to them. The power of a thank you can go a long way to helps others feel better about themselves and what they are doing. 1. Teacher: Give thanks to the teachers that spend teaching us to be educated and grow into the person we are to be. Create or purchase something special for a teacher. Some suggestions are a craft, card, candy, gift, flower, book, cookies, or fruit. 2. Military: Give thanks to those that serve in the military protecting our nation and others. Create or purchase something special for someone in the military. Some suggestions are a card, stocking, candy, gift, book, blanket, or homemade craft. For more suggestions view our "support our troops" webpage. 3. Parents: Give thanks to your parents that take care of you daily and provide the things you need. Create or purchase something special for a parent or both. Some suggestions are a card, create a meal or snack for them, coupon booklets, candy, or homemade craft. 4. Family: Give thanks to your family, your grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, godparents, etc. Create or purchase something special for a family member. Some suggestions are a card, create a meal or cookies, coupon booklets, candy, or homemade craft. 5. Religious members: Give thanks to religious members or your God. If you wish to give thanks to your God then you can verbally say thank you and donate items to your religious facility you attend to show your thanks. Examples include: Items for a clothing drive, food drive, vacation bible school and much more. If you wish to say thank you to fellow religious members, such as youth leaders, teachers, etc. Create or purchase something special for them. Some suggestions are a card, gift, candy, cook something, or homemade craft. 6. Leaders of groups: Give thanks to your group leaders in 4-H, scouts, or other volunteer positions that assist you or your community. Create or purchase something special for a leader. Some suggestions are a card, gift certificates, flower, item to make their job easier, candy, or homemade craft. 7. Share with others: Be thankful for your family and the many things they have provided to you. Invite someone to dinner, play a game, or activity at your home to share your things. Be sure to say thank you to your parents for allowing them to come over. 8. Volunteers for community based assistance: Give thanks to the many volunteers of the community that help others. Examples are those that assist at the food banks, clothing drives, homeless shelters, battered wives shelters, hospitals, etc. Lend a helping hand at one of these facilities OR collect items for the facility. Don't forget to send them a thank you card for all that they do. 9. To those that serve our community: Give thanks to those that serve our community when we are in need during a crisis. Many put themselves in a dangerous situation when they are assisting others. Examples are fire department, police department, red cross volunteers, etc. Create or purchase something special for a cause they represent OR create a card OR basket of goodies for their office. 10. Friends: Give thanks to your friends that support you, comfort you and are there for you in your time of need. Create or purchase something special for your friend. Some suggestions are a card, coupon booklets, cook something, candy, or homemade craft. 11. Volunteers across the Nation: Many programs that assist others across the nation are run by volunteers. Families receive food and clothing during the holiday season; hot meals are provided at soup kitchens and meals on wheels; children are comforted during illness or loss of family; warm coats, blankets, and shoes are provided to the those in need. Assist one of these groups by creating ornaments for the angel tree, donating goods, or crafts OR you can send them a thank you card for their efforts. 12. Create: Create a garland, paper quilt, placemat, or craft that represents who you are thankful for. If you are completing this as a group project have each participant create write on the leaf on the garland, square of the paper quilt, or placemat who they are thankful for. Each person then should create a card for the person they wrote on their craft item. 13. Free Choice: Choose a person, program or facility to say thank you.
