They can be dropped off at homeless shelters, angel trees, hospitals, or participate in a program that collects shoeboxes for children. Call around and see where they will accept them.

Shoeboxes for Children Project - How to Pack Your Shoebox

1. Find an empty shoebox or purchase a plastic container the size of a shoebox. You don't have to wrap it, but it would be a nice festive touch! Just make sure you wrap the shoebox lid separately so that the contents can be checked.

2. Decide whether your gift will be for a boy or girl, and then choose an age category. Toddler, elementary, middle school, or high school.

3. Attach a label or index card on the shoebox and write down the age group and if it's for a boy or girl.

4. Fill your shoebox with stuff like books, school supplies, hats and T-shirts, hygiene items (like a toothbrush, toothpaste and a bar of soap), or toys (dolls, balls, small cars, stuffed animals). If your toy requires batteries, then place them in the box too. You can also add a personal note, please don't sign your last name so they will know who it's from!

5. Don't include anything that's used, damaged, breakable, or perishable (like fruit).
Once you've filled your shoebox, drop it off at your school, church, shelter, or a local charity.
