Sew (I CAN) Patch (2 inch)
Complete one of the sewing kits we offer or learn how to sew simple items on your own.COMPLETE ONE REQUIREMENT TO EARN THE PATCH 1. Learn about sewing supplies and their purposes (needles, pins, pincushion, thread, thimble, scissors, tape measure and more). 2. Complete a pre-packaged sewing kit. Most of these kits are pre-cut with simple instructions for beginners or advanced sewing. 3. Visit a fabric or quilting shop. Choose some fabric or kit to create a sewing project. 4. Create your own personal sewing box or kit. Include scissors, stick pins, needles, thread, and a tape measure. 5. Learn to add decorative pieces to your sewing projects. Examples: yarn, ribbon, tassels, fringe, or pom poms. 6. Learn how to use a sewing machine and sew something. Examples: pillow, stocking, totebag, hat, stuffed animal, etc. 7. Learn about different types of fabric. Choose two different types of fabric and feel how they are different. What are each one of them used for? Examples: cotton, rayon, silk, wool, flannel, or fleece. 8. Look at pattern books and choose a pattern you like. Choose the fabric and colors that will look best for the pattern you chose. What else do you need to complete the item. NOTE: On the back of the pattern is a list of items you will need and the amount of fabric. Sometimes it also suggests the type of fabric to use. 9. Take a class in hand or machine sewing. What did you make? 10. Complete a community service project that requires sewing. Make stockings for children or soldiers, OR items for women’s shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, or teachers.
