Have
a dance or an event. Decorations could include participants
decorating their own heart or creating valentines. See below
for some quick ideas.
Focal
point coming into the event: Using poster board, several
pieces taped together, creating an arch walk through. Trim
the top to create an arch at the top. Cover the poster board
with large red hearts, conversation heart candies (real or
made out of construction paper), lace doilies, cupids, lips,
glitter, and/or flowers. Hearts can be made of construction
paper or purchase some on clearance after Valentines Day.
Attach it around the doorway with packing tape. {You may want
to create it in two separate pieces so you can transport it
to your event.}
For
extra, you can cut out other symbolic "Valentines Day"
items (see above) or little "hedges" with red roses
from poster board or faux ones and place it on the bottom
of the arch.
Attire:
For this event you can wear anything red, pink, white, glittery,
or with hearts. For extra, you can get or make a beautiful
flower corsage or boutonniere for your "date"!
Decorations
inside the facility: Decorations could include participants
decorating their own heart or creating a large flower or valentine.
Each group could receive one heart template for them to use
as a pattern for the decoration. Creating a valentine card
could be as easy as folding a piece of poster board in half
then decorate it. The flowers could be made from a number
of things: posterboard, construction paper, or tissue paper.
Collect the decorations at the next meeting before the dance.
Before the guests arrive, tape the large cards or hearts on
the wall behind the tables. Personal touch yet very festive.
Cuts down on cost for the event as well.
Refreshments:
Festive tablecloths in red, white, green, purple, and/or pink
should be used to cover the table. Place a plastic basket
of conversational hearts (in bags or get the individual boxes),
cookies, chocolates (be aware of allergies!), or any other
"Valentines Day" themed food. Water bottles can
be placed on each table with heart stickers on them. Use a
piece of cardstock folded over to place on each table with
the name of the group.
Extra:
Take photos of each group or if it is a parent/daughter event
take pictures of couples. A backdrop could be a black sheet
with red hearts attached to it. You can also stamp red hearts
on the fabric as well or stencil the lettering "Sweetheart
Dance" on the backdrop. Child sits on stool and parent
stands.
